Uncertainty and complexity are the result. In such a world there is neither enough nor the right kind of data for traditional analysis, and no one person can understand all aspects of the puzzle. Instead of black and white we find shades of grey, and learning takes place through exploration and experimentation rather than handed down knowledge. Analysis and rationality, the traditional domain of the MBA programme are no longer enough. To operate in such a world we need softer skills, we need leadership and skills that support decision-making in uncertain and ambiguous circumstances. At the heart of the new skill set has to be integrative, systemic thinking, emotional intelligence, self-awareness and a deep commitment to a bedrock of business ethics.

Traditional MBA skill set is no longer enough - FT.com

Wonderful article (unknowingly) describing the increasing obsolescence of an MBA in today’s business environment.

Not surprising given that the MBA is in essence the ultimate distillation of the skills needed to run a Industrial Age company, not an Information Age - or as we like to call them a digitally native - company.

Also explains why so many establishment incumbents across industries find it so hard to adapt to this new paradigm as their management ranks are chalk full of smart folks indoctrinated by the 20th century canon of the MBA.

Perhaps ironically (or not) I suspect that the purveyors of these obsolete credentials will in general have an even harder time than their customers (both corporates and students) to adapt to this new reality.  Perhaps what is needed now would be better named a MAB - Masters of Adaptive Behavior.
